When Gregor Menzies decided it was time to branch out on his own he was sure that his past experience would help him secure the funding he needed. Gregor is a very gifted photographer and had worked for many years with one of the UK’s leading photography studios. Skilled in finding innovative and fun ways to bring traditional family photographs to life Gregor was keen to get his studio Azuare – up and running in Dundee.
Like so many budding entrepreneurs Gregor’s first port of call was his local bank where he had been a customer for many years. However his application was rejected by the bank manager because he didn’t have sufficient capital to offset the risk on the loan he was seeking – a common problem in business start up. Unfortunately for Gregor rejection of start up funding is also a common solution for the high street lenders! Gregor’s problems were also exacerbated because he was not familiar with the lending rules and regulations and was therefore not able to present his business case in the best possible light. Lochroe helped him to do that by assessing his strengths and weaknesses and presenting that information in a way that amplified his strong points and minimized or mitigated his vulnerabilities. As a result Lochroe was able to succeed where he had failed alone.
